Prestige has risen in the dog breeding industry a lot over the years. As a result, many people even those with no interest or experience in dog breeding have flocked into the industry. They hope to benefit financially even though they have little to offer in terms of maintenance of breed standards. That is why is can be problematic to find French bulldog breeders who are responsible enough, especially if one is not knowledgeable.

For those who live within the United States, a good way to find a responsible breeder is to go to dog shows. Many specialist breeders attend dog shows to showcase their dogs and to find new clients. The American Kennel Club marketplace is also another useful resource from where one can find information on breeds.

Additional information can be found through resources provided by the parent club of the breed. Most breed parent clubs have websites from where one can access more information about the breed. AKC also has clubs in various locations in the United States and one can visit it to find more information. It is usually better to do some research before approaching a breeder so as to be able to ask the right questions and to gauge the answers given.

Like stated earlier, some breeders are only engaged in the process of breeding dogs as a second source of revenue. Usually, they have full-time jobs upon which their livelihood is dependent. Such breeders usually do not have puppies ready for sale and may put off buyers. If that happens, it is advisable to continue with the search. The breeder one settles for should be knowledgeable and one should feel comfortable with them.

After coming in contact with probable breeders, one should arrange to inspect their premises. While on the visit, it is important to ask to see the parents of the puppies one is considering to acquire. This helps to understand the temperament and appearance of the puppies when they grow to maturity. There are other options that one should consider if they are not pleased with the parents.

One should request to see the conditions around the premises to have an idea of how the breeding is done. The facility should be odor-free and clean. In the same way, the puppies should be clean and well-fed. One should avoid puppies that are under-fed as indicated by protruding rib cages. Coughing, lethargy, and runny eyes or nose are all signs of disease that one should look out for.

One should pay close attention to how the dogs interact with their owner. If good care is provided, the puppies will not shy away from strangers or the breeders. Instead, they are outgoing with strangers and everybody. Good puppies should not be too aggressive or too timid either.

The breeder should be able to provide documents about the health of the puppies and their parents. They should also explain the various genetic diseases that are likely to affect the breed one is interested in and how that can be managed. Certificates to verify that the dogs have been screened health-wise must also be provided.
